Xbox 360 Free With a Mobile Phone, but How Goood is it?

With prices ranging from £130 to £180 there's no doubt that an Xbox 360 is a pricey games console. However offering a free Xbox 360 with a mobile phone is proving to be a very popular deal. The Xbox 360 is a second generation games console from Microsoft, offering ten times more power and three more processing cores than the original Xbox. As the name '360' suggests, the Xbox 360 is very different from the original Xbox, in specs as well as design.

Advantages of the Xbox 360

Aesthetically, the Xbox 360 is very similar to one of its rivals, the Playstation2, as it can be stored both vertically and horizontally. The idea behind this is that the Xbox will fit sleekly into your home entertainment system, the white colour blending in with the colour of your home. Of course if you prefer a different colour, the Xbox 360 can be customised with a variety of inexpensive faceplates to suit your individual style. On the technical side, as I mentioned before, the Xbox 360 is miles ahead of the original Xbox. With three symmetrical cores with a clock speed of 3.2 GHz each, the Xbox 360 is one powerful machine! This means that the Xbox 360 has the processing power to deliver true 720p and 1080i wide-screen HDTV images for all of its games, a specification similar (but better) to the Playstation 3. In addition to the console the Xbox 360 comes with wireless controllers. These are a similar idea to the Wii wireless 'Wiimote' but the Xbox 360 controllers are a more traditional shape, made for use by two hands unlike the Wiimote.

Disadvantages of the Xbox 360

It's hard to find a disadvantage about the Xbox console itself but I will say that it isn't as packed full of perks as it could be. Microsoft also sells two other versions of the Xbox 360: the Xbox 360 Arcade and the Xbox 360 Elite. The extra features that these two other consoles hold could easily have fitted into the original Xbox 360. If you want to pay an extra £100 then the Xbox 360 Elite comes free Xbox LIVE silver membership. Also we found that the Xbox LIVE feature, which is hugely advertised on both the internet and in catalogues, requires a subscription, something not made obvious when purchasing an Xbox 360 console. One other thing that has been mention by many Xbox 360 gamers is the extremely limited game library in term of genre. Most of the games specific to the Xbox 360 fall into the category of sports and generic action games and it seems that the manufacturers of the Xbox have no plans to expand their selection of genre's in future releases.

Summary of the Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 is a state of the art console with a very powerful processor which paves the way for super-fast game play. Traditional style controllers means that the gaming on the Xbox 360 has a traditional but futuristic feel due to the sharp graphics and wireless technology.

Our Verdict on the Xbox 360

We liked the Xbox 360 due to its fantastic graphics and speedy loading times but we did find the limited game genre a bit frustrating.

Final Opinion of the Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 is a good quality console with very up to date technology. If you like sports and action games coupled with good graphics and huge memory then the Xbox 360 is for you. 9/1
